When countries experience a resource boom, they often achieve a rate of economic growth that is lower than the rate of growth achieved by countries that have not experienced a resource boom. Further, countries experiencing a resource boom sometimes see an increase in corruption. This webinar will explore this phenomenon, called the “Resource Curse” or the “Dutch Disease.” In addition to looking at examples of countries that have fallen prey to the resource curse and countries that have avoided the curse, we will review strategies and structures that may avoid or reduce these risks.

Scot Anderson is a partner in the Denver office of Hogan Lovells. His practice focuses on commercial transactions, regulatory advice, and project development involving the mining, oil and gas, and energy industries. He has represented a number of clients with projects on Indian lands and internationally. He recently served as the global head of the Energy and Natural Resources group for Hogan Lovells, and currently serves as the Vice-President of the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation.
