Computational STEM Seminar: Protecting User’s Security and Privacy in an Open Environment at Mines
September 27, 2017 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Dr. Phil Roming, Computing, Communications and Information Technologies (CCIT), Colorado School of Mines
Chauvenet Hall 156
As the central provider for information technology services on campus, CCIT is charged with the often-contradictory mandates of ensuring the security and privacy of our information and at the same time providing an open environment that fosters collaboration and innovation. Dr. Romig’s presentation will provide a technical overview of the security framework used by CCIT in our attempt to fulfil these conflicting institutional needs. He will also provide a preview of upcoming initiatives and technologies CCIT is developing including multi-factor authentication, additional cloud resources and our new research support services team. There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion about how CCIT can better fulfill its mission to meet your needs. If you have ever wondered why CCIT does what it does, why it doesn’t provide something you wish it did, or have been frustrated with seemingly arbitrary security controls get in your way this is a great opportunity to understand the reasoning or propose a change.
