Despite the stagnation of the nuclear industry following the nuclear accident at Fukushima and rising construction costs, nuclear power remains the #1 source of low carbon electricity in the United States and #2 globally. This seminar explores the role of existing and new nuclear reactors in meeting global climate goals. It will cover major governance and public policy challenges in nuclear energy, including safety, economics, non-proliferation, waste, and commercializing a new generation of advanced reactors.

Alex Gilbert is a complex systems researcher focusing on nuclear governance, energy innovation, climate policy, and space technologies. He works on commercialization and regulation for advanced reactors at the Nuclear Innovation Alliance. Alex is also a Fellow at the Payne Institute at CSM and is Adjunct Faculty in the Energy and Climate Program at Johns Hopkins University.
