BIO:
Dr. Kalpana Hulluru is a Professor in the Department of English, Pondicherry University (PU), Puducherry, India. She has been awarded the USA’s ‘Study of Institutions Award’ (2007) and the SICI’s ‘Faculty Mobility Grant’ (2016). While on a Fulbright at Metropolitan State University, Dr. Hulluru, teaches upper-division Literature courses, offers courses on Women’s Writing and Feminism that are cross-listed with the university’s Gender Institute. As part of the outreach, she delivers the annual Gandhi Memorial Lecture which is sponsored by Denver and Sister Cities International.
Title: Perspectives: Hindu Values in Select Indian Literature and Film
Hinduism, although a mode of life, has been narrowed down into the context of a religion. A key point in Hinduism is a value system that is secular and open. The presenter would like to open a discussion –using illustrations from literature and film – as to how inclusive/exclusive these values in a county like India are, given the factor of diversity, heterogeneity, and plurality.
