Hennebach Lecture: Top Ten Things You Should Know About North Korea
April 2, 2018 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pmFree
The Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences Division at Mines presents Mitchell Lerner’s lecture, “Top Ten Things You Should Know About North Korea.”
Over the past year, the Korean Peninsula has become the center of much of the world’s attention. From North Korea’s dramatic nuclear tests and horrific human rights record, to the bellicose rhetoric coming from both Pyongyang and Washington DC, the international community has watched with growing concern about what might happen next in this perilous arena.
This talk seeks to provide some relevant background about contemporary North Korea and offer insights into both how we got here and how we might proceed.
Mitchell Lerner is associate professor of History and director of the Institute for Korean Studies at The Ohio State University. He is the author of The Pueblo Incident: A Spy Ship and the Failure of American Foreign Policy, along with more than 15 journal articles, and he has edited 3 collections of essays focused on American international relations. He is associate editor of the Journal of American-East Asian Relations and a faculty fellow at the Mershon Center for International Security Studies. He also serves on the board of advisors of the North Korea International Documentation Project, and has held the Mary Ball Washington Distinguished Fulbright Chair at UC-Dublin.
