Innovations in Mineral Processing and Extractive Metallurgy have propelled civilization by creating new and improved High Tech and Critical Metals and the very industries that produce them. This presentation will outline the role of Innovation and cite several historical examples such as the Bayer and Hall Heroult processes, Cyanidation, Froth Flotation, the Kroll process, Rare Earths, Copper Solvent Extraction and Electrorefining, Ongoing activities, future considerations and possibilities will also be covered. Of note, the glaring deficiencies in, erosion of and growing global imbalance in US Intellectual Capital capabilities will be highlighted.

Dr. Corby G. Anderson is a licensed professional engineer with over 40 years of global experience in industrial operations, corporate level management, engineering, design, consulting, teaching, research and professional service. He currently serves as the Harrison Western Professor in the Kroll Institute for Extractive Metallurgy as part of the Mining Engineering Department and the George S. Ansell Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines.
