Mines Iron Pour by Hennebach & MME

December 7 @ 2:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Free

Art has never been so metal. The Department of Metallurgical & Materials Engineerings and the HASS Hennebach Program have joined forces with artists from CU Denver to bring you an evening of fire and fun with the first-ever Mines Iron Pour. An iron pour embraces the centuries-old art of casting molten iron into molds as part of an interactive art display. The furnace used for the iron pour, called a cupola, is a feat of design and engineering, as it can be made from common materials of almost any shape and size. Stop by to see how local iron artist Rian Kerrane has designed her newest furnace, and stay to watch as Rian, her students, & MME pour iron into molds created by the crowd!

The day will start with carving sand mold (for a small fee) anytime between 12 and 4 pm; these molds will become art that you get to take home! The furnace will be fired up at 3 pm and the pouring will begin at dusk, around 5:30 pm. Arrive before 4 pm to create a piece of art to take home!
