The Payne Institute for Earth Resources presents: Cameron Wobus

Open to the Mines community and the public.

4/17 Payne Seminar Info

Dr. Wobus is a principal scientist at Abt Associates in Boulder, CO. An Earth scientist with specific expertise in geomorphology, hydrology, and numerical modeling, Dr. Wobus’ research focuses on climate change impacts on hydrology, landscapes and human systems. Among his recent projects, he has developed national-scale models of changes in flood risk and asset damages due to intensification of the hydrologic cycle in the United States; he has simulated climate change impacts on hydrology, river temperature and salmon habitat in Bristol Bay, Alaska; and he has analyzed long-term meteorological records and climate model outputs to characterize historical and potential future extremes in precipitation and temperature to support risk communication and water utility planning. He has also served as an expert for a number of environmental litigation cases, most recently supporting the State of Louisiana and NOAA on the Deepwater Horizon oil spill injury assessment. Dr. Wobus holds a PhD in Earth Sciences from MIT, an MS in hydrogeology from Dartmouth College, and a BA in geology and economics from Bowdoin College. His peer-reviewed publications have appeared in journals including Nature, Geophysical Research Letters, Global Environmental Change, Climatic Change, and the Journal of Geophysical Research.
