Please join the Payne Institute for Public Policy at the Colorado School of Mines, the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, and Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City as we welcome Morgan Bazilian, Director, Payne Institute, presenting a hybrid seminar titled Shifts in Energy Geopolitics – Clean Energy on Thursday, November 10, 2022 from 8:05am – 9:20am (MT).
The landscape for global geopolitics has shifted meaningfully in recent years, given the renewed OPEC+ agreement and the Russia-Ukraine conflict. In particular, rising tensions between Russia and the West are bringing greater attention to energy geopolitics, as countries look to gain energy security though at a reasonable price. Governments promised ambitious emission reduction targets at COP26. But given the significant commodity price rise, they will have to weigh a fragile equilibrium. This session takes a deep dive into the political landscape for global energy commodities.
Key questions: How will geopolitics affect oil markets? How will it impact renewables? Are geopolitical maps being redrawn as energy transitions unfold?
