Mines has always been known for solving big problems using our advanced research. For example, Professor Melissa Krebs developed hydrogel bandages capable of slowly releasing medication over time. This pattern repeats in many fields. Are there opportunities for students to experience the excitement of creating solutions to problems that matter? Mines offers students opportunities to learn how to do that early in their learning journey. Check out the Innov8x Flash Challenges. These are 2-hour rapid-fire challenges in which students brainstorm problems, identify beneficiaries – people who would benefit when the problem is solved – and then quickly mock up potential solutions.
