Please join the Payne Institute for Public Policy at the Colorado School of Mines as we welcome Advisory Board Member Dr. Atul Arya, Chief Energy Strategist at IHS Markit, presenting Transforming Oil/Gas Companies to Energy Companies: The New Narrative? on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 from 10:00am – 11:00am MT.

As the arc of the global energy system shifts, there are numerous calls to accelerate the pace of the energy transition and reduce energy related GHG emissions. While many energy experts forecast that oil, gas and coal will remain part of the energy mix for the foreseeable future, investors, shareholders and consumers are demanding that major oil companies transform themselves into energy companies and meet net-zero emission targets. How will the companies change their strategies and create the new narrative? What will be the new financial framework? Are incumbents agile to survive this transition? And what will the future of the oil and gas industry? The talk will address these and related questions.

As Chief Energy Strategist, Atul Arya is responsible for integrating energy content, analysis and insights across the entire energy value chain and for c-suite client engagements. His areas of expertise include business strategy, commercial analysis, oil markets, energy technologies, climate change, energy transition and renewables. Atul previously worked for BP for over 20 years in a number of operational, business, technical and strategic positions around the world. His experience includes leadership in solar energy development. Atul has served on boards of several companies and institutions including National Council for Atmospheric research. He holds B.S., M.S. and Ph. D. degrees in engineering.
