Hennebach Event: Become! Art! EKPHRASTIC SOUND EXPERIENCE

Join us in the MME Hot Shop, Hill Hall 125 on the Mines Campus (920 15th St, Golden, CO 80401), Saturday, March 5^th anytime from 5-7pm, where we will be pouring liquid metal to make the first bronze-castings for a new instrument originally inspired by the Balinese gamelan gong and transformed through the Mines extended community of artists (or not) for a collaborative Ekphrastic* performance with itchy-o’s noise division on the 29^th of April.

Metallurgy, psycho-acoustics, fine arts, historical bronze casting and performative arts all combine to reach us at our emotional core and through all of our senses. Artists, students, faculty, staff, local and regional artists are all welcome to this public event, which is broken up into three parts. March 5^th is Part One!

Please also plan to JOIN US for Part Two on Saturday April 2^ndfrom 5-7pm. We will be fine-tuning the instruments and forging them into the final form and will expand the features present in Part One. Both will be incredible experiences unheard of at Mines.

Part Three is April 29^th in the evening and will be the free final musical event which will bring all of the art forms together into an evening musical performance by the band and artists.

*Extended Details: What is Ekphrastic art? 

Ekphrastic art is simply an investigation of one art form (for instance, music) from the perspective of another art form (for instance, poetry). So, if a poem is inspired by a piece of music, that means it is ‘ekphrastic art’! In order to create this art, poets and writers and artists from all over the state will join together on the Mines campus as we begin the process of taking metals sourced from broken instruments to melt down and create gongs using historical bell casting techniques and then tune them to a custom scale written by itchy-o.

When you arrive, we will have a space on the mezzanine above the foundry for you to observe the pour and enjoy a multi-sensory experience to use as inspiration for any artwork of your own can then be submitted to Seth Tucker to become a part of the musical performance event on April 29th. We need you! Please join us in growing this collaborative art piece by adding your own artistic voice.
